This is a non-supervisory law enforcement position in the Visitor and Resource Protection Division. As a Commissioned Ranger, you will be responsible for performing law enforcement duties including detection, investigation, apprehension, and prosecution under applicable laws, rules, and regulations enacted to insure the protection and safe use of National park resources. You will also educate, interpret, and inform visitors about resources, conservation, laws, and regulations. Collateral duties may include:
field training, emergency medical services, special response, technical rescue, swift water rescue, and helicopter rescue. Duties Performed:
Provides visitor and resource protection operations in both front-country and swamp like settings. Detects, investigates, and apprehends violators of federal and state laws. Will conduct proactive front country patrols and frequent vessel patrols in swamp atmosphere, day and night patrols. Incumbent conducts anti-poaching operations; maintains relationships with outside cooperator agencies; ensures LE and EMS supplies are maintained and properly stocked; writes park patrol plans and completes case documentation. Provides emergency medical services in both front-country and swamp like settings to potentially acutely ill and traumatic patients. Maintains good communications between supervisors, peers, cooperating agencies and the public, often under extremely stressful situations. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level. All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-12/30/2019-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect either full-time or 40 hours per week. Law Enforcement Commission:
Must currently possess, previously held (within the past three years), or be able to obtain a valid Type II (seasonal) or higher National Park Service (NPS) Law Enforcement Commission, or equivalent, by close of the announcement 12/30/2019. More information can be found in the 'Education' section of this job announcement. This is a primary position covered by enhanced retirement provisions which stipulate mandatory retirement at age 57 after 20 years of service. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, and must not have reached their 37th birthday upon appointment to this position. Two exceptions are allowed:
1) an applicant has prior Federal service in a primary covered position sufficient to complete 20 years of service on or before the mandatory retirement age of 57; or 2) an applicant is a qualified veterans' preference eligible, in which case the MEA is waived and their corresponding retirement age may be higher than 57 after completing 20 years of service. Must currently possess or be able to obtain a National Registry Emergency Medical Technician-Basic certification by 12/30/2019. Must currently possess or be able to obtain a First Responder and CPR Certification (or higher level certification) by 12/30/2019. Must have a current, valid State Driver's License by 12/30/2019. Must possess or be able to successfully obtain and maintain National Fire Protection Association Fire Fighter II certification by 12/30/2019. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
